Come on you must have been wondering….who the hell are these Iguanas?
First before I explain myself, I would like to say that I have no gripe with the real Iguana species; they are a wonderful little tiny piece of the amazing world that we live in….BUT….
Unfortunately for them, they have for many years been my analogy of the money sucking tyrants (and in many cases low life’s) that go around an industry offering bullshit as valuable advice, carrying out unnecessary services and charging a small fortune in the process. Time and time again.
You know who I mean. They’re the slippery little buggers (I know, I know, Iguanas aren’t!!) that you can’t seem to avoid in any industry. They’re the number 1 reason, why we’re all so skeptical about life in general and if left unattended can be the number 1 reason for eating up your company’s cashflow.
To get a better understanding of this analogy, read the quotes around my little green friend below (he’s the cutest Iguana I could find)…

Do these quotes resonate with you now?
If so, by all means please pass my little saying on…you’ll be surprised how good it makes you feel when you say it – and all without the need for an expletive! And it sounds so much better than the tired old “cowboy” that my dad’s generation use
So who are the Iguanas in the web world?
Well sadly, I have to say that there are tens of thousands of them!
However, before I proceed let me point out that contrary to many other industries, the Iguanas that exist within the web industry are on the whole, not Iguanas by choice.
You see, the thing about the web is that it is like a a huge living organism – which no one person, business or country owns or leads.
As a result, there has never been any clear path for everyone to follow. To put it simply, it’s like 100 kids trying to build a giant castle together with lego, but without a plan – needless to say it can lead to massive confusion, constant changes, disagreements and differing opinions.
I’m absolutely sure that this is the reason why the internet is taught so poorly in our children’s schools, after all what chance do the kids have if their teachers can’t even keep up with whats going on?
And here lies the problem.
No clear path. No set rules. And a constantly moving target.
It’s little wonder why the world wide web, which is still in it’s infancy, has so many roaming Igaunas.
- You’ve got web designers, that started out as graphic designers who couldn’t optimize a website if they wanted to.
- Then there’s optimisation companies that will optimize your site but completely neglect the basics such as a sales funnel.
- Or how about the link building businesses that will sell you 3000 links to your site over a 30 day spell – sending you backwards or worse, blacklisted.
- Or what about, the numerous traffic agencies that charge handsomely for managing a PPC campaign that a teenager could manage better?
- And what about the internet marketers who sell constant get rich quick systems to unsuspecting punters.
- And that’s without the plagues of spammers, hackers and other seriously troublesome Iguanas out there!
It’s an industry that kind of built itself and has subsequently created services that didn’t even exist 10 years ago.
It’s an industry that seems to have built a relentless viscous circle that brings nothing but confusion, fear and empty pockets to the owner of a “bricks and mortar” business.
Ok, not every web designer, optimisation business, link-building company and internet marketer is an Iguana – far from it, I know of many excellent people and businesses who I would happily recommend. But the vast majority are Iguanas; they are just trying to sell you one little piece of the pie. A quick fix if you like…in return for a decent amount of cash of course!
And then to add insult to injury, they tell you what they are doing is complicated, that there is some mystery, some special magical potion – thus building their own credibility and expertise by scaring the average business owner into financial submission.
It’s a sad story and one that I have both seen and heard of regularly.
So there you have it my somewhat detailed explanation of an “Internet Iguana”.
Yet it isn’t all bad news (in fact you couldn’t be further from it)…
I however go about things somewhat differently…
My number one priority is to train, consult and coach my clients on how to get over their mental barriers, to understand the internet and then learn the tricks and tools of the trade. Yes, I offer done4u services but these are primarily aids for my clients and members to help them towards the end goal.
Almost anyone can learn how to achieve online success – I did and so have many others.
The only thing that is missing for most business owners is a clear system to follow, which will filter out all the “bull and hype” and give results both in the short, medium and long term.
“Your knowledge is the single most important factor in your success. It can never be taken away from you and will never charge you for using it”
After all, you and I both know that the internet is the future, it’s already knocking down the mighty traditional media channels at alarming speed, it’s already become the replacement to the yellow pages, it’s already become the number one place for friends and family to communicate with each other.
The internet is the single biggest marketing tool the world has ever known. Period.
You need to understand it. You need to embrace it. You need to stop feeding the Iguanas. You need to feed Yourself.
It’s my goal to help you achieve this. I want you to have the whole pie. And preferably I want you to make it Yourself.
